Description
HALLOWEEN WITCH TWO SLIP/THREE FUNCTION LANTERN GLASS SLIDEOffered at auction is this
extremely rare
and uncommonly seen two slip glass / three function lantern slide circa 1880. What makes this item exceptional is not its age (~140 years) but rather that it incorporates
three different movements
resulting in six unique display combinations of its thematic Halloween witch.
One slip moves the witch's legs forward or back.
The second slip serves dual functions: In one plane it moves the witch's eyeball back and forth.
In another plane, it moves the witch's eyeball up or down.
These combinations, which are depicted in the listing-accompanying photographs, are as follows:
Witch full eye - rear leg back
Witch full eye - rear leg forward
Witch downward looking partial eye - rear leg back
Witch downward looking partial eye - rear leg forwaed
Witch without eye - rear leg back
Witch without eye - rear leg forward
The glass components of this lantern slide are incorporated into a wood frame. The spine of the frame carries the following hand written data: 27 Witch L11
The hand painting of the witch on her broomstick against a solid black background is in exceptional shape considering its rendered medium and circa 1880 date of creation.
Because of the age, condition and frailty of this item, returns will not be accepted unless there are extreme and obvious discrepancies between the item as textually described and photographically depicted in this listing and its delivered state.
